As we remember Pope Francis, we not only honor his contributions to the Church, but we celebrate his legacy of charity. His papacy has been defined by his call to care for the poor, the marginalized, and those on the fringes of society, actions that reflect his deep belief in the teachings of Christ. One of the core messages of Pope Francis's papacy has been the importance of charity, not as a mere act of giving, but as an expression of solidarity with those in need. He consistently reminded us that charity is not a temporary gesture, but a lifelong commitment to justice and compassion. Our profound loss at the passing of Pope Francis is softened by the powerful example and legacy he leaves behind for those who minister in the Church.
Bishop Erik Pohlmeier will celebrate a Memorial Mass for the repose of the soul of our beloved Pope Francis, on Thursday, April 24, at 6:00 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Mandarin), 11757 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258. All are invited to attend.
Churches throughout the Diocese of St. Augustine will be open for parishioners to pray for the Holy Father. However, as this falls the day after Easter, some parishes may have adjusted schedules or limited hours while pastors take time for rest. Parishioners are encouraged to contact their parish office directly for specific church hours.
