HELPING A FAMILY GET ON THEIR FEET: JULIA'S STORY*

Julia and her family moved to the U.S. from Nicaragua. In her home country, Julia was a physician and her husband worked as a schoolteacher, but establishing themselves in a new country was incredibly difficult for the family financially.

They turned to Catholic Charities for help. Through several of our programs, our team was able to assist the family with rent and utilities so that they could focus on getting jobs to provide for their daughter.

Both parents were able to secure employment, and now the family is working on learning English and building their new life.

“When we came to this place, we had nothing. Now, we have everything.” – Julia*

A STORY OF GRATITUDE: BILL*

Bill, 63, had always dreamed of owning a home, but gave up after years of disappointments – until he found Catholic Charities.

Through our partnerships with the Gainesville Housing Authority and others, we were able to help Bill become a first-time homebuyer and celebrated appropriately with a ribbon cutting at his new home.

“I’m in cloud nine but higher,” Bill said. “It’s a dream come true. I didn’t think it was possible.”
